Largest Ever Settlement for Patient Privacy Violation Under HIPAA
Another Settlement Expected Soon
Failure to securely dispose of items containing protected patient information cost two of the nation's three largest retail pharmacy chains a total of $2.25 Million and $1 Million to settle alleged violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy Rule, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on Tuesday, July 27.

Fully Endorses Contingency Fees for Auditors

President Obama signed into law today measures that hold government accountable for responsible use of taxpayer dollars and are intended to cut down on waste, fraud and abuse. The President also remarked that he has directed federal agencies to perform rigorous audits, paying companies conducting these audits based on the abuses or errors that they find.
