Connolly Adds 20 New Issues

Virginia, West Virginia Added to States Affected in Already Approved Issues

Connolly Healthcare, the RAC for Region C, posted 20 new DRG Validation Issues to their list of CMS-Approved audit issues, on Friday, April16. The new issues include eight (8) MS-DRGs with very high Relative Weights (which equates to high dollar reimbursements and thereby potentially high RAC fees).

CMS announced yesterday four new Conference calls for providers in April and May. The schedule is as follows:

  • For All Provider Types:                                  April 28, 2010   1:00pm - 2:30pm EST
  • For Home Health and Hospice Providers:          May 4, 2010     1:00pm - 2:30pm EST
  • For DMEPOS:                                               May 5, 2010     1:00pm - 2:30pm EST
  • For Physicians:                                             May 12, 2010    1:00pm - 2:30pm EST

The call in number is the same for all sessions: 1-877-251-0301.

Adds Another $250 Million to Combat Medicare Fraud and Errors

The new health reform legislation signed by President Obama on March 23 (H.R.3590), plus the reconciliation “fixes” enacted on March 25 (H.R. 4872) provide $250 Million of additional funding for Medicare audits and enforcement, create new federal enforcement tools, create a new Stark self-disclosure process, mandate compliance and return of overpaymentsby all providers, and expand the role of Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs) to include pursuit of improper payments in Medicaid claims, for all 50 states.
